BPK RI Reappointed as External Auditor for International Maritime Organization (IMO) Until 2027

SurabayaPostNews — In a significant development during the 33rd Assembly Session held at the IMO Headquarters in London on December 1, the Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan (BPK) RI has been reappointed as the External Auditor for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the period 2024-2027.

With the unanimous support of approximately 175 Member States attending the Assembly, BPK RI, along with the World Maritime University (WMU) and the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI), will continue its role as the external auditor. This reaffirmation follows BPK RI’s successful tenure in the same capacity during 2020-2023.

During the previous term, BPK demonstrated a commitment to upholding values of independence, integrity, and professionalism while adhering to the highest standards in auditing. Nyoman Adhi Suryadnyana, Member I of BPK, highlighted that the institution provided recommendations aimed at enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of IMO’s management.

Nyoman Adhi Suryadnyana expressed BPK RI’s dedication to further elevating the quality of audits to support IMO in achieving its vision and mission.

The decision to reappoint BPK as the External Auditor for IMO considered the institution’s expertise gained through its roles in various international bodies, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (2016-2021), IMO (2020-2023), WMO, IMLI, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (2024-2029).

In another achievement, BPK has also been chosen as the External Auditor for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (2023-2025). With its role as the External Auditor for several international organizations, BPK has additionally been entrusted with leading the Panel of External Auditors for the United Nations (2022-2023).

Simultaneously, Indonesia secured a position as a Category C member on the IMO Council for the 2024-2025 term. These dual accomplishments further solidify Indonesia’s standing and presence on the global stage.
